Bridgetown is the capital and largest city of the nation of Barbados. Bridgetown is the only city on Barbados and well over half the island's residents live there. Barbados gained full independence from Britain in 1966 but retained its status as a Commonwealth country.

This historic city and its nearby Garrison are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What at first glance are huge boulders washed up on the beach, are actually rock formations broken away from ancient coral reef! “

Barbados is a sovereign island country in the Lesser Antilles. It is 34 kilometres (21 mi) in length and as much as 23 kilometres (14 mi) in width.

The West Indies is a large group of islands that separate the Caribbean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean. They comprise three main island groups: Bahamas (north), Greater Antilles (central) and Lesser Antilles (southeast). Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles.

The postcard shows the houses of parliament in Bridgetown. Bridgetown is the capital and commercial centre and has a population of about 80 000. It was originally named "Indian Bridge" for the rude bridge which had been constructed over the river (now known as the Careenage) by the Indians.
