Lofoten Islands | Norway


Postcard
Lofoten is an archipelago in northern Norway, located within the Arctic Circle. The archipelago is known for a distinctive scenery with mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, beaches and untouched lands. Winter scenery right out of a fairy tale, as you can see on the postcard picturing Hamnøy village.

Stamp
The stamp is part of a set of two bird stamps issued 2015 and shows the European Crested Tit. This bird is a widespread and common resident breeder in coniferous forests throughout central and northern Europe.

Situated in south-western Norway, Geirangerfjord is part of the west Norwegian fjord landscape. The fjord is among the world’s longest and deepest. The deep blue Geirangerfjord is surrounded by majestic, snow-covered mountain peaks, wild waterfalls and lush, green vegetation. The fjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites.

Grønningen Lighthouse | Norway

Grønningen Lighthouse is located on a small rocky island off the Norwegian coast. Part of the island is a bird sanctuary. During the summer the house is operated as a hostel with 40 beds for overnight stays.

Bergen – Famous for its Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf | Norway

Bryggen, the old wharf of Bergen, is a reminder of the town’s importance as part of the Hanseatic League’s trading empire. Around 1360 a ‘Kontor’, a foreign trading post of the Hanseatic League, was established in Bergen.

Only for the brave: Kjeragbolten, Norway

The famous Kjerag boulder (Kjeragbolten) is a massive 5 m³ boulder wedged between two cliffs.

Without the help of any mountaineering equipment, brave visitors can walk on to the bolt – it is said to bring good luck. But think twice about looking down; the walls drop a 1,000 meters on both sides!

The capital of Norway

Oslo is the capital of and most populous city in Norway. Aker Brygge is a popular area in Oslo with a shopping mall, apartment buildings, offices, restaurants, bars and a theatre. It is one of Oslo’s primary attractions.

For more than a century Aker Brygge was the site of a shipyard. The architecture is a mixture of old and modern.
