Dakar, capital of Senegal

Dakar capital of Senegal
Postcard
Dakar, capital of Senegal, located in West Africa. Only two months ago I received another card picturing this city. I feel very lucky!

You probably all have heard about the rally Paris-Dakar. It started almost 40 years ago, in December 1978. Until 2008 the rally finished in Dakar. But in following years start and finish is in South America.

Thank you very much Chris!

Dakar, capital of Senegal

Capital of Senegal
Postcard
Dakar is the capital and largest city of Senegal. The city is located on the west coast on the Cap-Vert Peninsula facing the Atlantic Ocean.

The African Renaissance Monument was erected in December 2010 in honor of the end of slavery and the continent's emergence from oppressive colonial regimes. Interesting facts: the monument is taller than the Statue of Liberty and was built by North Korea.

A postcard from Senegal

Postcard

The back of the card reads “Jeunes circoncis”. Circumcision is an important moment in the life of the young Senegalese boy. This practice existed long before the arrival of Islam in Senegal.
