Old Havana | Cuba

Postcard
La Habana Vieja, or Old Havana, is the historic heart of Cuba’s capital city and the largest colonial centre in Latin America.

Although it is today a sprawling metropolis of 2 million inhabitants, its old centre retains an interesting mix of Baroque and neoclassical monuments, galleries, churches and lively plazas.

Baseball from Cuba

Postcard
Baseball came to Cuba in the 1860's. Brought by Cubans who studied in the United States and American sailors in Cuban ports. It quickly spread through the island and took heart with the Cuban people who were fighting for their independence from Spain.

The Netherlands has beaten Cuba 2-1 to win the baseball World Cup 2011 in Panama.

Stamp
50th anniversary of The National Aquarium of Cuba, a scientific research center specialized in environmental education and disclosure of the flora, fauna and ecology of the marine environment.

Paintings from Cuba, thx for sending Mauroh

Postcard
Pinar del Río is one of the wildest provinces of Cuba. In it lies the valley of Viñales, a town famous for the landscape that surrounds it. The most striking feature is the "Mogotes" hills that emerge from the surrounding plain. In its territory there is a large modern painting which evokes the prehistoric rock art (the Mural de la Prehistoria).

Stamps
Dia de la cosmonautica, from a series of 6 stamps. A nice little windmill in the bottom right  corner. Being from a country of windmills I appreciate that.

Juegos Olimpicos. Barcelona Olympics ’92 stamp. Cuba is one of the best baseball countries in the world.
