Roatán Island | Honduras

Roatán is an island off the northern coast of Honduras. It is located between the islands of Útila and Guanaja, and is the largest of the Bay Islands. The island is about 50km long and only 2 to 4 km wide. Roatan is a real diving and snorkeling mecca.

The stamp shows the ‘Fortaleza de San Fernando de Omoa’. A fortress built between 1759 and 1777 by the Spanish conquistadores to protect the coast from rampant piracy.

Poda Island | Thailand

Poda Island (Koh Poda) is a small limestone island with beautiful white coral sand beaches and crystal clear water. The circular island is no more than a kilometer in diameter, covered in palm trees and almost entirely encircled by a soft white sand beach. Koh Poda is the largest of all the four islets in Poda Group Islands.

Hopkins is a small but vibrant community of approximately 1,000 villagers. The people live mostly by farming and fishing, and more recently many have found work in the growing tourist industry.


Garifuna music is a type of music found in Central America, primarily on the Caribbean coast of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The Garifuna are descendants of West and Central African people. Drums play an important role in Garifuna music.

Tioman Island | Malaysia

Tioman Island is a small island located 30 km off the Malaysian coast. The natural beauty of the island is its biggest attraction. Lush tropical jungle covers about 12,000 hectares of the island. The waters around the island are filled with corals of all shapes and colours and home to a vast diversity of sea creatures, including two species of marine turtle. A popular spot for scuba diving.

This amazing bird stamp is part of a set of three stamps issued 2015. This one depicts the Black-crowned night heron. In Malay language a Kuak and in Dutch a Kwak.

Sugar Loaf Island | Grenada

Grenada is the most southerly of the Windward Islands in the Caribbean. It is one of the ten smallest countries in the world. Grenada has a population of about 100,000 and covers an area of only 133 square miles. One of the six smaller islands that are part of Grenada is the high pointed Sugar Loaf Island, just offshore Levera Beach.

Grenada issued a new definitive set in 2013, all featuring parrots. The highest value is $50 (1$ is enough postage for one postcard).

The island of Guam is located approximately 3,300 miles west of Hawaii, 1,500 miles east of the Philippines and 1,500 miles South of Japan. The island is the western most territory of the United States. As you already figured out by the looks of the postcard, Guam is truly a tropical island paradise. The average temperature is 85F (about 30 degrees Celsius).

Guadeloupe is an overseas region of France in the Caribbean. The two main islands are Basse-Terre to the west and Grande-Terre to the east. The archipelago also comprises the smaller islands of Marie-Galante, La Désirade and the Îles des Saintes.

La Désirade is a small island, only 11 km long and 2 km wide and a population of about 1,800. It is Guadeloupe’s least-developed and least-visited island. Even the nicest beaches are nearly deserted.

The ROC code on the postmark reads 37752A. The geographical locations are not mentioned on the postmark, only the ROC code. 37752A refers to Pôle Caraïbes, the airport of Guadeloupe.

An island country in the South Pacific Ocean: the Cook Islands. Rarotonga is the most populous island of the archipelago, with a population of 13,000.

Jambiani beach, Zanzibar | Tanzania

Jambiani is a tiny fishing village with only a handful of guesthouses, hotels and resorts. Jambiani Beach is miles of startling white sand fringed by coconut palm trees. This tropical paradise can be found on Tanzania’s island of Zanzibar.
 
Stamps
The dinosaur stamp is part of a set of 16 stamps depicting World of the Dinosaurs, issued in 1994. The other stamp is part of a set of 11 stamps about Youth and sports, issued 2009.

The Canary Islands: Cran Canaria

The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago located just off the coast of Morocco.

Gran Canaria is the third largest island in the Canary Islands and the second largest by population with 850,000 inhabitants. The islands are a major tourist destination with over 12 million visitors per year. 

Maspalomas is a tourist town in the south of the island. If you look (very) closely  you see the Maspalomas Lighthouse, built between 1861 and 1890.





Stamp
A stamp dedicated to tourism (issue 2014). It shows a compilation of various facets relating to tourism. In one way or another, the passion and beauty of the country are reflected by red-roses, natural products by oranges, crafts by the typical Spanish fan, and art by the carved tympana over church and cathedral doors.

Belitung is an island on the east coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. An enchanting island with pearly white beaches, crystal clear water, and magnificent granite stone formations on its shallow shores. The island has a population of about 265,000. Belitung is a source of tin, clay, iron ore and silica sands.

(left) Ujung Kulon National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. The park has the largest remaining lowland rainforest in Java and holds the only viable population of the critically endangered Javan rhino.

Fernando de Noronha Islands | Brazil

Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago of 20 islands in the Atlantic Ocean, about 500 km off the Brazilian coast. It is named after the Portuguese merchant Fernão de Loronha.

Did you know that this Brazilian hidden treasure allows to accommodate only 420 tourists at a given time slot? Being a small island with limited water resources and a fragile ecosystem, there is a maximum number of visitors allowed.

The archipelago is a World Heritage Site since 2001, because of the importance of its environment.
