Monte Carlo | Monaco

Postcard
Monaco is a tiny country hidden amongst the south of France, the second smallest country after Vatican city. With only 32,000 inhabitants.

The small picture on the left shows the Monte Carlo casino. Did you know that if you happen to be a local, the Monte Carlo Casino is a no-go area?. The citizens of Monaco are prohibited from playing here. In fact, you’ll be asked to show your passport at the door.

The small picture on the right is the Prince's Palace of Monaco, the official residence of the Prince of Monaco, Prince Albert II.

Monaco is one of the 14 members of SEPAC (Small European Postal Administrations Cooperations). The 2014 Sepac issues have a common theme “flowers”. Monaco’s issue depicts the Protea, a typical flower of …South Africa. Well, Charlene, Princess of Monaco is of South African origin.

Monaco, the capital of ...Monaco

Postcard
However very small with a population of only 36,000, MONACO  is a real country. A constitutional monarchy in the same vein as San Marino or the Vatican, a full member of the United Nations with its own royal family.

There is no geographical distinction between the State and City of Monaco." The capital of Monaco is Monaco, the country is a city and as such serves as its own capital.

The city of Monaco is split up, like any other town, into several neighborhoods, one of them is MONTE-CARLO; the area on the hill overlooking the main harbor that houses the casino and the luxury hotels.

A postcard from Monaco

Postcard
Located on the Mediterranean Sea, Monaco is surrounded by France on three sides. This small country is 0.8 square miles in size, or approximately the same size as Central Park in New York City. It is the smallest state in the world after Vatican City.

In 1297 François Grimaldi and a small army seized control of the Rock of Monaco. Although the Grimaldis were expelled in 1301, they returned thirty years later, and the House of Grimaldi has ruled Monaco uninterrupted (except from 1789 to 1814, when it fell under French rule) since then.
