Bode-Museum Berlin | Germany

Museum Island is the name of the northern half of an island in the Spree river in Berlin, Germany. This island is home to five different museums, built between 1824 and 1930.

The Bode museum displays a collection of sculptures, Byzantine art, and coins and medals.

Izmir Clock Tower | Turkey

The Izmir Clock Tower is a historic clock tower located at the Konak Square in İzmir, Turkey. The clock was built in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II’s accession to the throne.

Torre de Belém | Portugal

The Belém tower was built in the sixteenth century in the Tagus river to control the entrance to the city from the sea. Today the tower is Lisbon’s popular tourist attraction.
The Torre de Belém is a UNESCO World Heritage site together with the Monastery of the Hieronymites, also located in Lisbon.

Tower of old Panama's Cathedral

Together with the historical district of Panamá (Casco Viejo), it forms a World Heritage Site since 1997.

Diocletian's Palace, Split | Croatia

The ruins of Diocletian's Palace, built between the late 3rd and the early 4th centuries AD, can be found throughout the Croatian city of Split.

This palace is today the heart of the inner-city where all the most important historical buildings can be found. There are many attractions within the palace, but the most viewed is the Saint Duje Cathedral (Saint Dujam).  Thx Mirna!

Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan

Astana, meaning Capital in Kazakh language, is the capital and the second largest city of Kazakhstan. But only 15 years ago the city didn't really exist at all. In 1997 Kazakhstan's President Nazarbayev moved the capital from Almaty to Astana.

Today the science fiction-like skyline has started to earn the country international recognition. On the right of the postcard you see the most famous landmark in Astana, the 105m tall Bayterek tower.

Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur is the capital and most populous city in Malaysia. Petronas Towers, a pair of skyscraper office buildings in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, that are among the world’s tallest buildings with a height of 450 metres. The Twin Towers were built to house the headquarters of Petronas, the national petroleum company of Malaysia.

The Eiffel Tower, Paris

Paris, the capital and largest city of France. There is not much change you haven’t heard of the French capital's most beloved landmark: the Eiffel Tower. More than 7 million people visit this iconic tower every year. More than 250 million people since its opening in 1889.

The tower rises 300 meters tall and when it was completed at the end of the 19th century it was the tallest structure in the world. The Eiffel Tower was built for the World Exhibition in 1889, held in celebration of the French Revolution in 1789. The man behind the Eiffel Tower was Gustave Eiffel.

China's tallest buildings

The Shanghai World Financial Center was planned to be the tallest building in the world when it was designed in 1997. The 97 Story building would surpass the spires of the Petronas Towers in Malaysia.

When Construction was restarted in 2003, the 508 Meter Taipei 101 in Taiwan was already underway to becoming the World's Tallest Building. Plans where changed but the Tower couldn’t be built any higher than its present height at 492 meters since the already done foundation was meant to support a 460 meter tall building. 

The slightly smaller skyscraper is the 420.5 meters high Jin Mao Tower. "Jin Mao" means "Golden Prosperity" in Chinese.

On the left you see the Oriental Pearl Broadcasting & TV Tower. With 468 meters one of the tallest broadcasting towers in the world.

The tallest building in the world: Dubai's Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure in the world, at 829 meters.Burj means Tower in Arabic language. It’s renamed after Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of UAE and ruler of Abu Dhabi.

It was officially opened on Jan 4, 2010. Construction began in September 2004.

Tokyo Skytree is a broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It is the tallest structure in Japan with a height of 634 metres (2,080 ft) and the second tallest structure in the world after Dubai’s Burj Khalifa (829.8 m).

The Kuwait Towers

One of the most distinct architectural expressions in the Middle East. Designed by a Swedish architectural firm and opened in 1979, the largest of the three towers rises to a height of 187m, and house a two-level revolving observation deck, gift shop and café.

The lower globe on the largest tower stores around one million gallons of water.

The middle tower is also used for water storage, while the smallest tower is used to light up the other two. The design is excellent, being both very modern and very Arabic at the same time.
