Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc | Czech


Olomouc Baroque

According to whc.unesco.org, this memorial column, erected in the early years of the 18th century, is the most outstanding example of a type of monument specific to central Europe.

In the characteristic regional style known as Olomouc Baroque and rising to a height of 35 meters, it is decorated with many fine religious sculptures, the work of the distinguished Moravian artist Ondrej Zahner.

Třebíč | Czech Republic

Třebíč is a town in the Czech Republic. The Jewish Quarter and St. Procopius Basilica is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The ensemble of the Jewish Quarter, the old Jewish cemetery and the Basilica of St Procopius in Třebíč are reminders of the co-existence of Jewish and Christian cultures from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape | Czech Republic

“Between the 17th and 20th centuries, the ruling dukes of Liechtenstein transformed their domains in southern Moravia into a striking landscape. It married Baroque architecture (mainly the work of Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach) and the classical and neo-Gothic style of the castles of Lednice and Valtice with countryside fashioned according to English romantic principles of landscape architecture. At 200 km2 , it is one of the largest artificial landscapes in Europe.”

Church of St John of Nepomuk | Czech Republic

The Pilgrimage Church of St. John Nepomuk is located neart Zelena Hora in Czech Republic. The number five plays an important role in the churches layout.

There is a five-pointed ground plan, five entrances, five altar niches, twenty-five chapels around a central space, five stars and five angels on the high altar who are carrying the martyr up to heaven. The church was built in the 1720s.

Villa Tugendhat | Czech Republic

Villa Tugendhat is a historical building in Brno, Czech Republic. The villa was built between 1928 and 1930 for Fritz and Greta Tugendhat, and designed by the German architect Mies van der Rohe. 

He was one of the principal architects in the development of the Modern Movement in architecture, which characterized design and construction in the 1920s and 1930s in Europe and North America.

Litoměřice - the Garden of Bohemia

„The region got the name the Garden of Bohemia in the 17 th century. There on confluence of the river Labe and Ohře, in pictorial areas of České středohoří. There is one of the most beautiful Czech town, the royal town Litoměřice, where at the present time lives about 26 000 inhabitants.“

Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady
This monumental Baroque construction by Octavio Broggio from 1701-31 was started already by his father Giulio, on top of five residential houses of the Jesuit seminary. Today the church is used only occasionally for concerts, for most of the time it remains closed to the public.
