National Museum of Western Art | Japan

Postcard

The National Museum of Western Art is the famed architect's only built project in the far east. It remains open today and houses the work of significant western artists including Rodin, Manet, Picasso and Pollock. The Museum is located in the museum and zoo complex in Ueno Park in Taito, central Tokyo. 

Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (1887 – 1965), known as Le Corbusier, was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, writer, and one of the pioneers of what is now called modern architecture.

In 2016 UNESCO added the building to its list of significant architectural and historical sites, along with 16 other Le Corbusier projects.

Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan

Dushanbe is the capital and largest city of Tajikistan. Dushanbe means "Monday" in the Tajik language. Since 1991 it has been the capital of independent Tajikistan. The city grew from 300 inhabitants in 1922 to 750,000 today.  

 

The building on the postcard is the national museum, opened  in June 2013.

Taipa Houses–Museum | Macau

Macau was administered by Portugal from the mid-16th century until late 1999, when it was the last remaining European colony in Asia.

The "Macanese House" is one of Macau's typical houses in Portuguese colonial style. It is part of  the Taipa Houses–Museum. The museum is located on the south side of Taipa, one of the islands that forms part of Macau. The islands of Taipa and Coloane, are now connected by a piece of newly reclaimed land (Cotai strip).

Cantacuzino Palace, Bucharest, Romania

The National Museum “George Enescu” was opened in the Cantacuzino Palace, one of the most beautiful buildings in Bucharest, a historical monument and one of the European Heritage Label buildings. The sumptuous entrance, in Art Nouveau style, announces the luxury and the refinement of the époque, reunited in one of the most imposing palaces in Bucharest.

Built in 1899–1902 by Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, former mayor of Bucharest, leader of the Conservative Party, and one of the richest men in Romania ever. After Cantacuzino died in 1913, the palace was inherited by his son Mihail Cantacuzino and his wife, Maria.

After the premature death of her first husband, Maria re-married in 1939, becoming the wife of George Enescu, Romania's greatest composer. George Enescu (1881-1955) was a composer, a violinist, a teacher, a pianist and a conductor, a complex and brilliant artistic personality.

After the death of George Enescu, in 1955, his wife donated the domain to the Museum and to the Composers’ and Musicologists’ Union of Romania, to be dedicated to the memory of the musician. Thus, on the 19th of June 1956, George Enescu Museum was opened.
