Little planes are common in Alaska. Locals like to say there are more planes than cars, even though that isn't completely true.
Alaska does, however, have the highest ratio of plane owners to residents: about 11,000 registered flyers, out of more than 600,000 people. Flying in a small plane is the most efficient way to get around the country's largest state.
