Nalanda Mahavihara (meaning Nalanda University) was a centre of learning from the seventh century BCE to 1200 CE. The site comprises the archaeological remains of stupas, shrines, viharas (residential and educational buildings) and important art works in stucco, stone and metal.
In 2016 UNESCO declared the ruins of Nalanda Mahavihara to be a World Heritage Site.
